For the second successive weekend, the onset of April rain overtook a sunny start to prevent Ilchester from completing a game of cricket in Division 1, although they managed to get to tea at Oxlease on Sunday. Electing to bat, West and Middle Chinnock raced away, reaching 50 in only the 8th over, thanks largely to a mix of stylish and aggressive strokes from Mark Walmsley (32) and Luke Hawker (27). However, with Colin Smith (2 – 19) and Doc Marten (0 – 21) finding a good length, the run-rate abated and, as the pressure built, Paul Chalmers (5 – 16) ripped through the middle order as the Chinnock innings closed on 160. Unfortunately, as tea was taken, a relentless drizzle began, and stumps were drawn without a ball of the second innings being bowled.
